SC’IȺNEW First Nation is proud to announce an exciting development: the construction of a brand-new band office. Construction began in May 2024 and is set to be completed by June 2025, marking a significant milestone for the community.

According to Beecher Bay Health Lead Krista Johnny, this development is long awaited for the SC’IȺNEW community. Johnny shares, “20 years ago, the CEO at the time started working towards a new band office,” and “now it’s finally happening.”

The new building will offer amenities SC’IȺNEW has never had before. One of the most anticipated features is a gymnasium complete with a weight room, providing an important space for the community to gather, youth to engage in sports, and administration to develop new programming. This addition is particularly important as it offers a place for the youth to stay active and involved, fostering a sense of community and commitment to well-being.

But that’s not all. The new building will also provide space to bring SC’IȺNEW’s administration and resources operations under one roof, streamlining operations and making services more accessible.

The new office will create a much-expanded health ward – complete with a separate exam room and abundant office space – that is anticipated to attract more healthcare professionals and improve the overall healthcare services available to the community.

With so much critical infrastructure and programming moving under one roof, this development also creates potential for growth by freeing up the current office buildings for alternative uses. While the future of the current buildings is unknown, they will remain within SC’IȺNEW’s possession and will be put to good use for the benefit of the community.

SC’IȺNEW looks forward to this opportunity to create a beautiful environment so the growing team of staff can better serve the community. Stay tuned for updates to this story and others.
