Housing Manager

Julia C. is SC’IȺNEW̱’s housing manager and oversees the Canada Mortgage Housing Corporation’s (CMHC) Section 95 housing program. That means she is in charge of maintenance work, mortgage, and rent.

Julia was off reserve for seven years, during which she lived in Sacramento, California. She came back and worked with the CSET program. She did maintenance work before moving up the ladder. She joined SC’IȺNEW̱ after that.

To strengthen her capacity as Housing Manager, Julia completed the housing and infrastructure course with First Nations Health Authority (FNHA). She enjoys talking to community members, learning what their housing needs are, and learning about where the community stands when it comes to the lack of housing.

When not working, Julia loves to play video games.

Maintenance

Peter Charles oversees all aspects of maintenance, from mowing lawns to supplying firewood for the elderly and disabled. He has received specialized training from the band to handle various tasks, including maintaining hot water tanks, faucets, toilets, windows, doors, electrical switches, and heaters. Additionally, he operates a small mechanical waste treatment plant and holds a water certification due to his previous experience with water chlorination.

Peter is actively involved in several community committees, such as the South Island Wellness Committee, the Lands Committee and the Longhouse Repair Committee. His passion for the outdoors and dedication to helping others make him a valuable asset to the community.

In his free time, Peter enjoys working on cars.
