SC’IA⁄NEW members are invited to attend an upcoming community meeting on April 26, 2025, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m at 4495 Happy Valley Rd. Through this meeting, SC’IA⁄NEW First Nation is working to create a culture of transparency in the community.

The meeting will include a comprehensive update on the work SC’IA⁄NEW’s many departments have been undertaking and their plans for the future. This meeting also provides the community with the opportunity to ask questions and give feedback on these topics.

The meeting will begin with a meal, followed by introductions. SC’IA⁄NEW’s departments present their activities, undertakings, plans, and achievements. For example, in last year’s meeting:

  • The Ocean Resources Department talked about its plans to host the annual Tribal Journeys event, tracking commercial vessel traffic, monitoring Eel Grass and Bull Kelp beds, monitoring watersheds, and tracking the abundance of shellfish;
  • The Health and Wellness, Education, and Children and Youth discussed the development of legislation for Indigenous Governed Children and Family Protection services, their partnerships, and their summer youth programme; and
  • Beecher Bay Health offered an overview of its current health programmes and the opportunities for preventative and maternal, child, and family care.

We will also be addressing questions that were asked by community members during the last meeting.

The communications agency Remarkable Communications will provide technical support and live-stream the meeting for community members who won’t be able to attend in person. Additionally, a recording of the meeting will be made available to community members after the meeting.

For any inquiries about the meeting, please contact the SC’IA⁄NEW First Nation office at 250-478-3535.
